The series Life Size is of objects, typically rejected or disused, that are photographed and printed at 100% size. I’m interested to see how the act of copying an object changes the value of the original object, as well as creating a question of which is more valuable. The original or the copy?

Containers

Containers is an ongoing series of dumpster portraits that started in Berlin. It comes out of my interest in representing moments of awkward isolation. The focus is on a central object that takes its place in its surroundings but is somehow out of place there. The akwardness comes from this tension. The dumpsters are there to contain the mass of stuff we don’t want any more, what needs to disappear so that the transformation or transition can happen. I see them as psychological characters, and try to encourage an empathetic relationship with them.

Hand Painted Signs

While working on the project Listener during a sculpture symposium in Kerala, India, I would come across many examples of hand painted signs. Evidence of an economy very different from the one in North America. This project influenced and seeded the project Art Photography which would follow 4 years later during an art residency in Mexico City.
